childhood memory relived through my children

when i was little my mum would make pikelets for afternoon tea.....to come home (from school) to the smell of pikelets frying was bliss.  i am carrying on this tradition & my little girls are loving it!  recently i had my mum & dad staying & we had an afternoon tea party with......dry crackers - no only joking!!!!  we had freshly pan-fried strawberry pikelets w butter, jam, icing sugar & lots of cups of tea........it was bliss!

for a simple pikelet recipe go to google...find the taste.com website & use this recipe - fool proof!

Childhood food memories are so lovely. My Mum went through a phase of doing afternoon tea when we were on school holidays - cakes of the traditional kind (victoria sponge or scones etc) and tea (we seemed to be allowed to drink tea much younger back then). It was a lovely interlude. How lovely that you are doing the same for your daughters. I love that little milk bottle!

These look so gorgeous! MY gran used to make pikes for us, such a nice tradition.

Nawww...such sweet memories and so easy to make too! And although my mother has never made pikelets, I do remember coming home from school on a cold day and enjoying store-bought ones reheated in the toaster with lashings of butter =)
