a last minute dinner get-together was how my recent visit to montrachet came about. i have dined at montrachet before & loved it...on this recent occasion my boss suggested we head to montrachet on a spur of the moment type of thing...so a table was reserved via mobile phone & there we were on a wednesday night @ 8:30pm sipping champagne & deciding what to order from montrachet's new autumn menu....the restaurant was very busy & our waiter, max canche, was quick to attend to us & continued looking after us for our entire sitting. max has been with montrachet since they opened 6 1/2 yrs ago.
several dishes were ordered around the table including...
- fricassee de champignons
- carpaccio de boeuf,
- saumon fumé farci aux crabe (manuka smoked salmon & fresh crab terrine served w tomato/ avocado salsa
- fruits de mer aux cheveux d’ange (pan fried fresh green prawns & scallops w olive oil, tomato, garlic, fresh herbs & cognac served on angel hair pasta
- salade verte
- escallope de veau savoyarde (seared escallope of veal grilled w smoked ham, tomato & raclette cheese),
- and finally...some fromage! morbier, bûche d’affinois, delice de fromi
montrachet is an absolute institution in brisbane. their food is superb! after my 3rd champagne i imagined we were sitting in paris @ a bustling bistro about to walk the french streets...
