kristos kebabs, 1670 sandgate rd, virginia

i am putting it out there for anyone to read.....i am always in search of a fine kebab!  since living in brisbane i can count on 1 hand how many are worth mentioning....my husband & i had a gig when we lived in sydney...on saturdays 4 lunch we would venture out for a yiros @ marrickville or a kebab @ surry hills....always authentic & delicious - happy days!

how do i define a bad kebab?  ok food court kebabs are not usually good....alfalfa or grated carrot in a kebab is not a kebab they are called a wrap.....squirty bottles with watered down hommus or weak tahini is unacceptable!  yesterdays cut up tomato which now looks translucent is awful.....& limp lettuce is officially off!

so what makes a good kebab to me?....marinated meat (pref chicken for me) spinning slowly on a sizzling hot rotisserie, garlic paste or sauce (freshly made), quality thick hommus or tahini, freshly made chilli paste or masterfoods hot chilli sauce is ok, finely sliced ice-berg lettuce, chopped tomatoes or a fresh lemony tabouli is good, thinly sliced onion (nice if sprinkled w sumac).....all wrapped up tight in fresh lebanese bread & toasted well in a hot press.....

a place worth a mention is kristos kebabs.....husband & wife team, he cuts the meat, she preps the kebab.  fresh, healthy & a good price of $6.50 + their chips are good.  you can buy turkish delight or baklava by the pc....the shop is clean & holds the appearance of your everyday food takeaway shop & they do a fine kebab!  I also like no no's, 158 musgrave rd, red hill - great felafels, delicious smoky baba ganoush, good kebabs etc....i might blog them one-day!...also a well made yiros - lefka's, 170 hardgrave rd, west end.
