years ago when i lived in sydney i went to a greek club near new town.....it was a friday night, loud, great fun, wine fueled & the food was delicious! a club to me (since having children) has strangely become my friend - main reasons....children run around, i feel somewhat comfortable with that & we can all eat reasonably. i have been to hellenic house a couple of times & love it for all the above reasons BUT the food is simple & delicious....no frills! sit out the front, enjoy the views of the city, listen to the greek music, graze on the multiple plates of food & enjoy the byo vino. on a recent visit we enjoyed the chicken souvlaki w greek salad (good fetta), grilled haloumi w lemon oil, grilled greek sausage, fries, tzatziki w fresh bread & grilled squid w greek salad & rice pudding....all for a price of under $50. inside (esp at the back) is usually the mens club with many playing tavli (bit like a western game of backgammon).
go to hellenic hs & soak it up...you too will imagine you could be anywhere else in the world but brisbane! don't be discouraged by the corrugated "open" sign at the front - adds to the charm!
